A lot of people find websites by searching questions in Google. Where your website shows up in the search results is called its "ranking". A higher ranking means more people will visit your site.
So how do you get your website to rank better?
There are two main things that affect your ranking:
On-page things you can do on your actual website. This includes using keywords that people search for in your text, having a good website structure that makes sense, making sure your site loads fast, and giving Google data about your pages.
Getting other reputable sites to link to yours. The more quality websites that link back to your pages, the higher your site will rank in searches. Some ways to get these "backlinks" are to create helpful content that others want to share, be active on social media, and reach out to websites in your field.
Here are some tips to improve your rankings:
Research keywords people search for that are relevant to your site and use them in your content
Make your website easy for visitors to navigate
Check that your site loads fast on phones and computers
Add descriptions and titles to your webpages
Create blog posts, videos, or tools that others will want to link to
Ask industry websites if they would be willing to link to your helpful content
Keep trying new things and check if your website ranking improves in Google.
Over time and with some patience, your site traffic is likely to slowly grow.
